Hi everyone!
This year I have done about 10 1st birthday parties. It was quite a year for us all. I wanted to write a little something to all the new parents out there who are thinking about throwing a huge bash for their baby's first year celebration.
While I specialize in childrens parties I have to say that a 1st birthday party is always a challenge. New parents have visions of painting their little one as Minnie Mouse or Hello Kitty. The dads out there want baseball logos or a football helmut.
While in therory this sounds like a riot it is next to impossible to acheive on one so young. Unless your baby can sleep through anything and is not ticklish in the slightest it may not work out the way you think.
Even if you say.." my baby is so good and loves strangers and doesn't mind being touched and yada yada yada" it will most likely not end well.
I ran into a situation where I did manage to paint a small detailed design on a little girl who as soon as her mom let go of the death grip...

Thanks for checking out my Cheeky Thing site! I would like to provide you with some useful info about face painting at your party and what to think about when incorporating this into your event.
For Birthdays this is a great add on to other activities you plan on having. Typically, face painting is a huge hit at any party but can also steal your guests away from other things going on. I usually have two or three "mascots" hanging around, watching me work and "helping" me by showing others in line my design book. It is not at all uncommon for me to be completely bombarded by kids from every angle. I try to position my back to a wall or "barrier" so no one comes behind me and bumps me while I am working. It is always helpful if you have someone from your party monitoring the crowd so things run smoothly and everyone gets their turn with no "cutters" butting in line in front of anyone.
Birthday Child is my main priority and gets VIP treatment.
